An outgrower model built for a steady harvest.

Rather than relying on one farm, we contract individual and group farmers year-round, so supply holds steady even in the dry months, and every farmer has a guaranteed buyer.

About us

Formalising a fragmented value chain

African Leafy Vegetables are in high demand across Western Kenya but the farmers growing them rarely benefit from that demand.

Kienyeji na Kadhalika was founded in 2025 to build a reliable platform for the safe cultivation and commercialisation of African Leafy Vegetables. We aggregate produce from smallholder farmers, bunch and pack it at our Kisumu packhouse, and get it to consumers who have been paying inflated prices to middlemen while the farmers who grow it see almost none of that value.

The scheme is intentionally youth and women-led. With youth making up over a third of Kenya's population and youth unemployment near two-thirds, we see vegetable farming as a real source of income for young people entering a job market that has little room for them, not a fallback, but a business.

Mercy Odanga

Mercy started Kienyeji na Kadhalika to close the gap between health-conscious consumers and the local farmers already growing what they want, cultivated organically, harvested on schedule, and sold at a fair price on both ends. As the company grows into a medium-scale operation over the next three years, that outgrower relationship stays the backbone of the business.

What we do

Four ways we create value

From seed to shelf, we support the whole chain that gets fresh vegetables to you.

01 / FRESH

Fresh Vegetables

Cowpeas, amaranth, black nightshade, jute mallow, spider plant and slender leaf harvested and bunched for same-day freshness.

02 / INPUTS

Inputs

Seeds, fertiliser and mechanisation support supplied directly to our outgrower network to keep quality consistent.

03 / PROCESSED

Blanched Vegetables

The same six varieties, blanched and prepared for longer shelf life, built for hotel, restaurant and bulk retail kitchens.

04 / TRAINING

Onsite Farmer Training

Production standards, organic farming technique and post-harvest handling, taught directly on our farmers' land.

The Bunch

Six vegetables, by their real names

Every order is sold the way it's known at the market, by its local name first.

Managu
Black Nightshade

Slightly bitter, iron-rich, a staple with ugali.

Mrenda
Jute Mallow

Cooked down soft and mucilaginous, often with milk.

Saga
Spider Plant

Slightly pungent, a Luo table favourite.

Mitoo
Slender Leaf

Delicate leaf, quick-cooking, mild in flavour.

Terere
Amaranth

Deep green with red-stemmed varieties, high in calcium.

Kunde
Cowpea Leaves

Tender leaves from the cowpea plant, a everyday green.

These are the six varieties grown across our outgrower network in Kisumu, Siaya and Kakamega, available fresh or blanched in retail portions or bulk for hotels and restaurants.

How we support farmers

Training for production and profit

We teach each farmer how to grow vegetables that meet market standards and how to make money doing it.

01

Crop Selection

What grows well in your soil and climate, and what markets demand, mapped out with data.

02

Soil & Water

Testing soil health, managing water efficiently, and choosing the right growing methods for your land.

03

Organic Methods

Natural pest control, composting, and chemical-free production that builds soil for the long term.

04

Harvest & Post-Harvest

Picking at the right time, proper handling, and storage so vegetables reach you at peak freshness.

05

Record Keeping

Tracking inputs, yields and costs so farmers know their business and can plan for next season.

06

Market Linkage

How to work with us, price negotiations, quality standards, and delivery logistics.

"Small farmers don't fail because they don't work hard. They fail because they work without knowledge and without a guaranteed buyer. We fix both."
